Inspired by his fiercely independent mother Charles found his calling and discovered his gift for the piano keyboard. He went on to worldwide fame by incorporating gospel, country, jazz and orchestral themes in his music, thus creating his own inimitable style. He also helped break down the barriers of segregation with his revolutionary music whilst fighting his own drug addiction demon and went on to become one of the great performers.
